Magnolia's Own Fall Festivals Fall on Renaissance Festival Saturdays

The Texas Renaissance Festival opened its 52nd season on Saturday, October 10, and it runs eight themed weekends through November 29, Thanksgiving Friday included. This year Magnolia has put two of its own fall Saturdays inside that run. The Southwest Montgomery County Chamber's Fall Fest is on October 31, which is All Hallows Eve weekend at the festival. The City of Magnolia's first annual Fall Festival at Unity Park is on November 7, which is Heroes and Villains weekend. Both events end in the middle of the afternoon, hours before the festival sends its evening crowd back down FM 1774.

For anyone who lives here, the festival's timing shapes the weekend more than its themes do. So this guide starts with the festival's traffic schedule and builds the local calendar around it.

The Festival's Traffic Schedule

The festival's own FAQ says attendance passes 450,000 people a season. It also says which roads carry that crowd. Traffic is heaviest on FM 1774 between Tomball and Magnolia, and again on FM 1774 between Magnolia and the festival grounds at 21778 FM 1774 in Todd Mission. The busy hours follow the festival day:

  1. 9 a.m. The village cannon sounds and the gates open.
  2. 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival monitors traffic and posts live updates on its social media channels.
  3. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Arrivals peak.
  4. 7 p.m. Festival gates close, with no re-admittance after that hour.
  5. 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Departures back up as the day ends with the Royal Fireworks at 8.

The festival's route advice affects local roads too. Its directions page sends Houston-area visitors up SH 249 to the FM 1774/Plantersville exit, and visitors from The Woodlands along FM 1488 to FM 1774. That means FM 1488 also carries festival traffic on some weekends. The FAQ suggests coming in from the north through Plantersville, and it warns drivers against GPS detours onto residential or closed roads.

The county plans for these weekends. In 2025, the Montgomery County Police Reporter reported on the annual Renaissance Festival traffic-impact meeting. County, toll-road, Todd Mission, Magnolia and law enforcement representatives attended, and the advice that came out of it was to stay on main roads because residential side roads may be closed or have traffic redirected. The route and timing guidance in this guide comes from the festival itself.

Two Hometown Saturdays Inside That Schedule

October 31: Chamber Fall Fest at Magnolia Event Center. The Southwest Montgomery County Chamber's 2026 Fall Fest, billed as a Community Family Fair, takes place at Magnolia Event Center, 11659 FM 1488. The organizer's Eventbrite listing includes trick-or-treating, a costume contest, children's crafts and face painting, pumpkin-patch photos and a crafters and artisans market. Entry is free. The chamber is asking for cereal and jelly donations for Society of Samaritans.

The end time depends on which listing you read. The chamber lists 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Magnolia Standard and a Woodlands Online listing both say 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Either way, the fair starts at the same hour the festival's arrival peak begins and ends well before the 6 p.m. departure wave. It also falls on the first day of All Hallows Eve weekend in Todd Mission, so costumes are likely to be out on both ends of FM 1774 that day.

November 7: The first Unity Park Fall Festival. The City of Magnolia has scheduled its First Annual Fall Festival for Saturday, November 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 19450 Unity Park Drive. The city hasn't published vendors, activities or a music lineup yet, so the city page is the place to check as the date gets closer.

The park has room for a full-day event. Community Impact reported that the city bought the 30-acre site from Magnolia ISD using 4A Economic Development Corporation funds. A Texas Parks and Wildlife matching grant followed in 2008, and the park opened in 2010. The city's Unity Park page lists a 75-by-100-foot covered pavilion with restrooms and a kitchen, an open amphitheater, a skateboard park, a volleyball court, a horseshoe pit, 2.5 miles of trails with bridges and observation piers, a playground, two more pavilions, wetlands and eight uncovered picnic areas. That page was last updated in 2021, so some details may have changed. The splash pad usually runs from about Memorial Day to Labor Day, so it will most likely be closed for a November festival.

November 7 is a busy day across the area. Heroes and Villains weekend opens in Todd Mission that morning, and Tomball's Depot Day Fall Fest runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Depot Plaza, with model trains, the museum, fall treats and live music in the evening. The Tomball event also sits on the FM 1774 stretch that the festival FAQ names as its first bottleneck. A family planning that Saturday will be choosing among three events, and the three are spread along the same road system the festival relies on.

The Eight Weekends, Side by Side

Every one of the festival's 2026 weekends has a theme, and the table below lines the local events up against them.

Festival weekend Festival theme In Magnolia and nearby
Oct. 10–11 Oktoberfest
Oct. 17–18 1001 Dreams Stroll Farmers & Artisans Market, Sun. Oct. 18
Oct. 24–25 Pirate Adventure
Oct. 31–Nov. 1 All Hallows Eve Chamber Fall Fest, Sat. Oct. 31; Stroll market, Sun. Nov. 1
Nov. 7–8 Heroes and Villains Unity Park Fall Festival and Tomball Depot Day, Sat. Nov. 7
Nov. 14–15 Barbarian Invasion Tomball Depot Plaza movie night, Sat. Nov. 14; Stroll market, Sun. Nov. 15
Nov. 21–22 Highland Fling Tomball Holiday Parade, Sat. Nov. 21
Nov. 27–29 Celtic Christmas, includes Thanksgiving Friday Stroll market, Sun. Nov. 29

The Sunday market dates come from the Farmers & Artisans Market's usual schedule. A Woodlands Online article from August 31 reported that the market runs on the first, third and fifth Sundays of the month, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applied to this fall's calendar, that schedule gives October 18, November 1, November 15 and November 29. The city's Magnolia Stroll page doesn't list 2026 dates, so check before you go. The Stroll itself is a shaded half-mile walkway that connects Magnolia Sixth Grade Campus with Sullivan Park, where the market sets up. November 29, a fifth Sunday, is also the festival's last day of the season.

A Monday Opening After Unity Park

The new local event with the fewest traffic concerns is on a weekday. The Montgomery County Memorial Library System will hold a grand opening for its new Innovation Space at Malcolm Purvis Library, 510 Melton Street, on Monday, November 9, from 3 to 4 p.m. According to the library system's announcement, the room has 3D printers, a large-format cutting machine, digital embroidery, a touch wall, and STEM, robotics and coding materials, with support from the Magnolia Economic Development Corporation.

The 4A economic development funds that helped buy the Unity Park land have a counterpart in the Magnolia EDC support behind the Innovation Space. So two days after the first Unity Park festival, another local facility built partly with economic development support opens its doors, and on a day the festival is closed.

If Your Saturday Ends in Todd Mission Anyway

Plenty of Magnolia households will go to the festival at least once, and this season has new acts. Paladin, the Errant Fool, is a new wandering jester who juggles, does magic and interacts with guests around the village. Sons of Olympus is a new mythology-themed show on the Agora Stage with aerial performance, acrobatics and stunts. Lester Jesterson, who hasn't performed there in several years, is back at the Mockingbird Music Gazebo. The festival has 21 stages, more than 400 artisan shops and more than 200 acres of camping.

The festival's timing advice works for a local trip too. Gates open at 9 a.m. and arrivals peak from 11 to 2, so a family that gets there early beats the busiest stretch. On October 31 or November 7, that means you could spend a morning at the festival and still make the end of the local event. Or you could do the local event in the morning and go to the festival on Sunday. The festival FAQ's "leave early and stay late" advice covers the evening too, since leaving after the 8 p.m. fireworks puts you behind most of the 6 to 8 p.m. departure crowd.

The local season continues one weekend after the festival closes. The chamber's 2026 Magic of Christmas Parade of Lights is set for Saturday, December 5, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Magnolia Junior High School, 31138 Nichols Sawmill Road.
